Hold Me Down 是 Halsey 在進入音樂產業前，與許多刻薄的老男人(Old Man)面試，特別是一位人渣，讓她寫了這首歌。

而 Hold Me Down 本身的意思有 1. 抱住我 2. 控制我，兩個意思都是具有主宰、控制意味，暗指男性對女性的支配與控制。

Halsey說：「這首歌是提醒大家，不論你的地位多微不足道，或是別人多麼看不起你，你也不應該被任何人控制。」

在開始歌詞解析前，先介紹這首歌的曲。這首歌的曲是以 Son Lux - Easy 做為樣本，擷取了前奏約12秒來改編，但採用樣本並不代表抄襲，知名歌曲像是 Britney Spears - Toxic、Beyoncé - Crazy In Love 和 Nicki Minaj - Anaconda 都有採用其他歌曲做為樣本。

這也不是 BADLANDS 專輯唯一一首採用樣本的歌，另一首採用樣本的歌曲是 New Americana 。

- Halsey的心魔驅使她講出心聲，承接第一首 Castle 裡向音樂產業表達不滿，Halsey試圖壓抑自己的想法，但越是反抗，心魔會因為吞噬她的怒氣而更加茁壯。

- three-piece 是三件式西裝，也就是男性。男性指的是 1.老男人 2.前男友，他們要 Halsey 雙膝下跪，指的是 1.崇拜 2.口交，代表要她用性來換取名氣，前男友的部分會在 Young God 中解釋。

- 這段講述 Halsey 內心的掙扎，面對黑特的謾罵，她會選擇逃開，但同時她也想要這些謾罵，因為越多的謾罵，越能證明她的獨特，但同時這些謾罵也有可能會擊潰她。

- Halsey緊抓著殘存的自尊和自信，黑特諷刺她說你不會紅多久，老男人要她閉上她的嘴 (Castle)。
